Jamie Reid
Jamie Reid (born1947) is a British artist and anarchist with connections to the situationist movement. His work, featuring letters cut from newspaper headlines in the style of a ransom note came close to defining the image of punk rock, particularly in the UK. His best known works include the Sex Pistols album Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols (1977) and singles "Anarchy in the UK" (1976), "God Save The Queen" (1977), "Pretty Vacant" (1977) and "Holidays in the Sun" (1977) .
Reid produced a series of screen prints in 1997, the twentieth anniversary of the British punk boom.
Reid has also produced artwork for the world music fusion band Afro Celt Sound System. Jamie Reid Created the ransom-note look used with the Sex Pistols Graphics While he was designing "Suburban Press" a radiacal polical magazine he ran for five years. Currently living and working in Liverpool.
this is one of Jamies most famous piece of art work , called God saved the Queen which was the album for The sex pistols which was a famous band in the 60's .
Reid’s work has always involved a fusion of the political, the spiritual, and a culture in distress, very often blurring the boundaries between art, design and critical response. It is now over 30 years since he took the Beaton portrait of the Queen, tore out her eyes and mouth, put a safety pin through her lips and stuck swastikas in her eyes. These were not just pieces of design, they were part of an assault on culture, and possibly the last time that art was truly shocking to the establishment whilst having a genuine radical effect on a whole generation.although i find this piece of work the most eye catching i feel like it is not the most patriotic piece and also find it quite disrespectful .
