It is the world's tallest bridge, at 343 m tall at its highest pillar, the Millau Viaduct in Southern France is almost a third taller than any other bridge in the world. A freeway in the sky, the bridge crosses the river Tarn in France and can save travelers almost an hour of travel between France and the Mediterranean. It also removes the traffic congestion once faced in the town of Millau. The episode documents the difficulties that the crew had to face, and the challenging processes that were used in its construction. The documentary contains a few words from the mayor of Millau, Jacques Godfrain, the bridge architect, Norman Foster, and designer, Michel Virlogeux. what i like about this bridge is that it represents a very good engineering and architectural input , even though its supposed to be a working bridges it also a beautiful monument and stands as a landscape memory
The arches of this footbridge across the River Ouse in Bedford reflect the similar curves of JJ Webster’s elegant 1888 footbridge nearby. Won in competition in 1995, the brief was to encourage a renaissance of the river embankments and act as a new landmark for the town. The bridge, at 32m in span, has twin steel arches which are inclined like butterfly wings to produce a feeling of containment on the deck and, simultaneously, an openness to the sky. The deck extends onto the landscaped banks at each end to engage with the open space around the bridge and enable step-free access, with longitudinal deck lighting concealed at kicker level within the parapets. The bridge is designed to create an inviting spectator platform and informal ‘grandstand’ during Bedford’s annual regatta.it is a double-arched cable-stayed bridge, like its name it is obvious were the architect has drawn inspiration from , which is a butterfly , just like I did in my bridge design where i drew inspiration from a skeleton , the concept is very innovative and it is extremely beautiful to look at , it makes transportation by foot just that bit more intresting.
